IF: Fierce (Meet Norton!)

Heh, we've come full circle. Mouse meets Lion. And Mouse finally has a name, thanks to my wonderful name-giving husband. Mouse hence forth shall be known as Norton! I sketched this in pencil, and then "color" in photoshop. About an hour of work.

IF: Hoard (more mice!)

Another mousey in my sketchbook. He is hoarding some cheese. Mmmmm, cheese. Part 2

Mice!

Since I can't show you what I'm working on, I thought I'd share some recent sketches from my sketch book. As you can see...mice! I feel like its a natural transition from Lions to Mice, but maybe I'm just crazy. I think mice are adorable, especially field mice.

Snow White and the seven drawfs WIP

Here is the sketch for a new painting I'm working on of Snow White. I always loved her character. Probably because we shared the same condition: fair skin and very dark hair. As a little girl, that made me free very special. Now that I'm an adult, I just thinks its a little creepy for a young woman to be living with seven short men. Here are two quick color studies. I'm going with the purple dress.

Sketch book complete! Retrospective

I finished my current sketchbook, yay! :D In celebration, I thought I would take the opportunity to look back at some of my other sketchbooks over the years.

rabbit_1992smduck_1992smpumpkin_1992sm

These were done in 1992. I was 10 years old. My parents paid a family friend and artist to come to our home and tutor me in art. (Every young artist-to-be's dream come true!) These are some of the drawing I did during that year.

englishcastle_1995sm

This was drawn in 1995 (I was 12 years old), during my 7 grade art class. I used either a magazine picture, or an old calendar as the reference for it.

Self_portrait1997sm

A self portrait in 1997 (I was 15 years old), right after coming back from a school banquet (Translate, Christian school version of prom). It was late, thats why I think I look tired. :p

Self_portrait1998sm

Another portrait, 1 year later (1998, 16 years old). And I think after anther school banquet! So weird that I would do that... I think it was because I was all dressed up and felt pretty.

bouldercreek_1999smyellowstone_1999sm

In 1999 my family took a road trip around the western states (Wyoming, Colorado) and I took my sketchbook along. I think it was the first time I really seriously sketched the things I saw around me, and was please with how I was able to capture them.

Self_portrait2000sm

A self portrait around 2000 (18 years old). I drew this picture when I was very upset about something. Luckily, I can't remember just what exactly. This was my senior year of high school/first year of college.

Al_smallpurse_dragon

A ink sketch of my step-father Albert while he was preaching (just recently added the paint to it as a gift for my mother), and a dragon rummaging in my purse (also drawn during church...bad girl)

These are from some of the art classes I took my freshman year. Finally, my humans are really looking like humans...

Unfortunetly, after 2000 my sketchbooks became very neglected as I discovered PHOTOSHOP! Oh joy of joys. :D My sketching was mostly in the margins of my notes and on church bulletins (still a baaad girl). Here is one drawing from 2005 I did, a character design.

I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane!

Dorthy Sketch

The March newsletter is out! If you didn't get it, make sure you are on my mailing list. Here is a pencil sketch I did today, obviously Dorthy in the land of Oz..but what happened to Todo? I blame Erin. She dog-napped him and replaced him with one of her own kitties....
I think I'll will be painting some gray tons over this.

New Moleskine

Well, I decided to join the party, and get sick, like everyone else around me. So I've been in bed for most of the last week, trying to fight off this cold/flu/whatever.

Last week, I noticed that I only had about 20 pages left in my sketchbook, which meant it was time to start thinking about the next one. I decided to purchase my first Moleskine. It came earlier this week. I was so excited to get it, but told myself I would NOT open it up until I finished ALL of the pages of my current sketchbook. Well, being sick destroyed all my self control, and I couldn't resist. I opened it up last night, and started sketching. Bad Megan. Bad bad Megan. And despite my oath that it was just this ONE sketch, and that I would go back and finish the old book....some how its my Moleskine that is sitting on the desk next to me.

Sketchbook: Gothic Fairy

One of my sketches today. I like her so much, I must paint her. But first must finish other projects. :p

Sketch book: Sleepy Guitar player

Drew this today in my sketchbook. Inspired by this stock over on Deviant art. The picture was just so darling, I couldn't help but sketch it. Wish I had my paints, pencils don't do it justice.

Sketch book dump

We were in San Fransisco this weekend, attending the wedding of one of Clint's coworkers. I took my trusty sketch book with me, for doodling as usual. After I drew the snowman on Friday, Clint inspired the series of sketches by asking, "What would happen if your Snow Bunny ran into your snowman...he has a carrot for a nose..." You may fill in the details your self.

Dancing skirt

Just a quick sketch, may turn into a painting. I love artrage for doing quick sketches, it really gives me great freedom of motion.

Egg-sitter: a pencil sketch

Here is the drawing I finished a few nights ago. I've already started on a watercolor painting of a fairy, but it isn't finished yet.
Anyways, her story...I'm not sure. She is responsible for caring for the dragon eggs before they hatch, I believe.

Its has been a little weird in my "studio" the last week. Since I haven't had the internet at home, I haven't bothered to set up my computer yet. So my desk top was cleared off, and I put out my pencils, watercolors, paper, etc. Nothing else to distract me. I am so surprised with how what a difference that has made with my attention span for my art. No distractions. I have made the decision therefore to try and keep as many distractions out of my new studio. I will not be putting a TV in there as I planned. I have to have the computer there, for many obvious reasons. But I'm now going to try to separate it from the hands on art stuff, to try and remove some of its distracting abilities.

At it again

I feel the creative juices flowing again. I created this painting today, in about an hour. More freeing exercise to just do what comes naturally to me and not worry about if it LOOKS right or whatever.

Witch sketch

Did a sketch today, just letting the pencil get some exercise, and this little lady emerged. I think she is a witch. I like her though!

Lime Green Fairy

Maybe I have margaritas on the brain, but this is my bit of art for the day. Sketched on some extra business card stock (parchment colored), and acented with whatever I had at my desk, with includes yellow highlighter, white out pen, green pen, and black pen. Wa-la! Wish the scan had turned out better. =p

So, i'm determined to do some art every day. Even if its only a sketch or something, and I'm giving myself the permission to not finish it. So here is my art for the day, spent about an hour on it. You make recognize it =p

Quick sketch

My sister asked me last minute to do a sketch of my neice Alexa. So here is what I did this afternoon.
